Love-hate.
Many moons ago a young and innocent Brit, Ian was just starting woodworking class. The teacher announced that no one was to touch the tools at the bench, so naturally Ian picked up one of the old style wooden planes which promptly disassembled in his hands. Having had way too much experience with smart-assed 11-year-old boys, the teacher was ready, and hurled a sturdy 2″x4″ wooden eraser at his head. So began my woodworking experience, the love of wood and tools, and the knowledge that if you screw things up they can come back to bite you.
Years later, after time served and time off for good behavior, retiring from industry and academia, I, the adult Ian, was able to return to woodworking, my first love, and fill the gap in my life. I was inspired by a number of the excellent ‘woody’ magazines, particularly “Fine Woodworking”. I am continually influenced by Matt Kenney, Desmond King and Toshio Odate.
